Mike McCarthy is the Director of Brewing Operations for Capitol City Brewing Co. He has worked as a brewer in all three locations and has won multiple awards at The Great American Beer Festival. Mike got his start in brewing at The West Virginia Brewing Company were he worked under head brewer Ned Strauser. Entering Capitol City Brewing Co as an assistant brewer in 2002, he has moved up to head brewer for the company in a few short years. Having a passion for beer and realizing that hard work and long hours are a must in this industry, Mike has committed to bringing great beer to the pint glasses of local beer enthusiasts.
Mike enjoys brewing many styles of beer, but brewing different styles of Belgian beer is his true passion. Mike is married to the most wonderful woman in the world, Christina, who supports him and his beer (it is not easy being married to a brewer). Mike also has “Bishop”, an American Bulldog for canine support.
Travis Tedrow, Lead Brewer for Capitol City Shirlington, has vivid childhood memories of his parents and neighbors homebrewing in the foothills of western North Carolina. “I remember the sweet malt aroma, the spice of the hops, and mom and dad looking like they were having a little too much fun,” says Travis. Since entering the commercial brewing industry, Travis has found a similar camaraderie and friendship among fellow brewers and industry folk.
After graduating from the University of Alabama, Travis bartended on the Alabama Gulf Coast, worked as a research assistant for the Senate Banking Committee, and read as many brewing texts as possible before attending the Siebel Institute of Technology in Chicago, IL. Travis underwent a rigorous apprenticeship program (read: cleaned numerous kegs for no pay) at Laurelwood Brewpub in Portland, Oregon before landing a job at Capitol City Brewing Co. in March of 2007.
Travis currently owns and regularly rocks out on two concert ukuleles.
