Mike McCarthy is the Director of Brewing Operations for Capitol City Brewing Co. He has worked as a brewer in all three locations and has won multiple awards at The Great American Beer Festival. Mike got his start in brewing at The West Virginia Brewing Company were he worked under head brewer Ned Strauser. Entering Capitol City Brewing Co as an assistant brewer in 2002, he has moved up to head brewer for the company in a few short years. Having a passion for beer and realizing that hard work and long hours are a must in this industry, Mike has committed to bringing great beer to the pint glasses of local beer enthusiasts.
Mike enjoys brewing many styles of beer, but brewing different styles of Belgian beer is his true passion. Mike is married to the most wonderful woman in the world, Christina, who supports him and his beer (it is not easy being married to a brewer). Mike also has “Bishop”, an American Bulldog for canine support.
Ryan Curley is the head brewer for the Capitol Hill location in DC. Before starting at Capitol City Ryan was a New Era Renaissance man, dabbling in graphic design, crab fishing and privateering while enrolled at Old Dominion University. The will to brew came after one ill fated crab claw to the hand which led him to the American Brewers Guild online brew program. After completing the degree, he jumped feet first into brewing and landed a job with Capitol City in the summer of 2005.
While not brewing Ryan enjoys rooting for the Redskins and Mets, hanging with his dog Bella, drawing, painting and also skateboarding.
